Thanks for that gpl1968 and RAW.

The white 3 way tube was clogged and cleaned the other day.
At least I know that the flame trap and the breather box and all hoses are clean now.

Looking like could be the rings and leaking as suggested by TonyS9,
would there be any other tell-tale signs of that.

I do have murky water in the cooling system, but it's probably donkeys years old, despite having a full volvo service history. If I change that, then I can see if that gets murky again.

Also, there is a small amount of white smoke when cold. The car has done a genuine 120,000. The only small matter being, the last 8 years, the car has only done 8,000 miles. It was a 3rd car for the family, and pretty much used as a workhorse when required. I know it does a car more good to be used, than laid up for weeks or months at a time.

I know I could whack the car in a garage and get it all sorted in a few days, but the cost involved would outweigh the cost of the car itself.

I do thank you all for taking the time to read my posts and to pass on your expertise.

Hi All,

Thanks for the help and advice from everyone.
Just to let you all know, the oil leaks have now all stopped. Did all that was recommended. Worked a treat. Thank you.

Bending the clips on the oil filler cap in a little more stopped the leak there.

After cleaning all the pipework and replacing the odd bit that was brittle, the high pressure was sorted.

As the oil seal had gone on the turbo oil return pipe where it goes into the block, that and the gasket were replaced, and that was the final thing that stopped all the leaks.

Where I have disturbed the turbo actuator I think it's called, that linkage now keeps falling off on the 'smooth' Highland roads. Not sure if there is meant to be a clip on the end of it? Can see me taking it off and drilling a hole through it and putting a split pin through it, unless there is a proper fix. (Thinking about it, hope I haven't put part of this on upside down which would then mean it wouldn't keep falling off?!?)

Is it normal to get a slight rushing of air sound when the turbo spins up? All the pipes appear intact under the bonnet, and it is just a standard air filter. The exhaust is as good as new and the joints have good seals.

The wastegate arm should already have a hole to take a small split pin to secure the actuator arm.

Have a look on the FAQ for the 'jiggle' test, Where you loosen the oil cap, and let it sit on the 'ole while the engine is running, if it jumps about, you got pressure, if it doesnt, your ok.
maybe worth removing the throttle body and cleaning it out as well, There are 2 emission pipes connected that clog up solid too... It will help cleaning these out.
