Default Rear Anti roll bar bush

Cars just passed MOT but 1 advisory which I need to get sorted.

Anti-roll pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement Rear [5.3.4(a)(i)]

I have no idea what the set up is like on my D5 xc70. Can anyone advise? Is it 1 bush or bushes either side?

That advisory likely relates to the rear drop links, rear anti rollbar links or sway bar links (all the same thing, just different names). They're like the front ones, just smaller. There could be a slight bit of movement in them, but not enough to fail it.

Or, it could be the bushes that go around the rear anti roll bar known as "D" bushes (the big rollbar that goes across the back of the car). The D bushes/rollbar bushes aren't replaceable as far as I know. You have to buy the whole rear rollbar with the bushes already in it.

Here's a video showing replacement of rear drop links/sway bar links/rollbar links on a V70. I imagine its a similar process.

I guess I will have to phone the MOT centre to find out which one it is then?

Let's hope it's the drop links. I can't imagine the rollbar is cheap to replace.

Many thanks

That would be your best bet.

If its the actual rollbar bushes, then that won't be cheap. Check with your dealer to see if they supply the bushes on their own, but I'm pretty sure they don't.

Your only option if you can't buy individual bushes and the MOT place says its the actual rollbar ones that are worn would be to use poly bushes, but I've heard mixed reviews on them. Some say they're harsh and increase vibration.

Its more common for the drop links to fail, which aren't expensive. Use good quality ones if you can.

Must be, but it seems a bit pricey to me.

You can get a set of rear drop links for about £50 ish.

They’re a doddle to fit. If it was me, I’d buy the parts myself and fit them. I understand if that’s not an option for you then I guess the price is what it is.

I can fit them myself, that's not a problem.

The anti roll bar bush I am not so sure because I have no idea how it's done or how to change the entire roll bar if it's necessary to change

I think the MOT advisory relates to the drop links, not the roll bar bushes. Lots of places call the drop links roll bar bushes, but the rollbar bushes are completely different to drop links.

Rollbar bushes are a different ball game to be honest. I highly doubt the garage would do that for £129 including parts. If they do, get it done because its a bargain.

If they want £129 to just replace the links alone, that’s on the pricey side. DIY job.

Agreed kev0607.

I will get the drop links done this summer before the winter comes along with the glow plugs and some other jobs that need doing.

Will the alignment need redoing again after replacing the drop links? I have onlh just had it set up after new tyres and rear trailing arm bushes were done

Not for drop links no. That won’t affect your alignment.
