Default Dash brighter than the sun ☀️

Hi all,

I’ve a 2011 V70 and the instrument cluster and radio screen are both incredibly bright.

When I drive at night I find myself covering the radio at times. Not ideal!

When I turn the “brightness wheel” to the right of the steering wheel, only the buttons on the radio and steering wheel change brightness, the radio screen and cluster stay just as bright.

Has anyone any ideas?

I think it will be to do with the daylight sensor. It has probably failed. Depending on spec and year It either just clips on the dash and there not overly expensive, or it is included with the rain and light sensor in behind the mirror as far as I know. Never had to change one myself.

on our 2011 c70 the radio display automatically changes to a subdued night mode it even changes on overcast daylight conditions as suggested in other posts there must be a light sensor somewhere a look in vida might help find this component

On my 2012 xc70 the light sensor is on the dash in the middle, I believe it also doubles up as the remote receiver.

Try covering it to block the light and see if the dash lights change brightness, if not then probably a duff sensor

Thank you all!

Do you think the sensor is behind the rear view mirror or the blob in the middle of the grill in the dash?

The one on the dash should be the sensor you need.

The one at the rear view mirror looks like the rain sensor.

There's no specific fuse for that sensor. It's connected to the CEM directly.

Does the LED flash when the car is locked? It goes through the same connector.
