Default Volvo V70 2.3 T5 5d Auto 2000 - value?

Hi all,

Very sadly my father has died, and left his prode and joy to me to deal with! He had a 2000 Volvo V70 2.3 T5 in silver/ bronze from new which is low mileage (for its age!) at just over 100K. My brother an I both love this car - but I have too many kids and an XC90, and he lives in the States. My 17 yo son has decided it is the ideal first car, but inurance companies disagree. Therefore we need to see it go...

Its bodywork is a little tatty (as Dad got older his ability to point it in the righ direction became a little less consistent), but mechanically it is sound, and inside is reasonably clean. I drove it for a month when one of our cars was off the road, and it was great fun. If a litttle thirsty.

Now does anyone have any idea of its value? And where I should try to sell it? It is a wonderful engine, but this model is not a classic ... I will post some pictures when I can.

Looking forward to your thoughts...

Jon

Hi Jon, my condolences upon the death of your Father. It is seldom easy when someone dies and you are left to sort out their estate.

It is difficult to value a car without a lot more information and good quality photographs. There are however steps that you can take to maximise this and make the car more attractive to potential buyers.

Firstly, has it got a current MOT? If it has not, or it is about to run out, think about getting a fresh one - it could be 50 quid well spent! If it passes, both you and your buyer can have confidence in the car, particularly if you also address any minor advisories such as borderline tyres or brake pads for example.

If it should fail and you are disinclined to repair it, then at least a prospective buyer would know what they are getting into. They may well be able to do things that you and I would need to pay someone to do, and hence be willing to take it on regardless, subject, of course, at a price reflecting the cost of the repair.

At this point, without more detailed information, any figure would amount to a pure guess. If it helps, mine would be anything from £500 upwards depending upon condition. A really special car might make several thousand on a good day and if you were prepared to wait for the right person who wanted that particular model / colour / trim, etc. Realistically, I would expect a good average specimen to be worth maybe £1500 - £2000 in todays market, but only with a decent MOT. Others may well differ, but you did ask!

As to where to advertise? By all means try here, but be aware that most will already have at least one car already. EBay with a realistic reverse? Classic Car Weekly have free classified. If you feel that the car might do well, then you could try an auction house such as Matthewsons, again with a sensible reserve.

Regards, John.

Sorry for the delay in posting - rather a lot of things to sort out!

Here are some pictures. Car could definitely do with a good clean. I have 20 years worth of receipts and a full service history!

I didn't have the key to get in to the car when I took them - but the inside is in surprisingly good nick.

Car runs very well (and makes a beautiful noise) and will be missed.

I'm exploring some options, but let me know if you have any questions about it.

Resize your pictures to no more than 1000 pixels x 1000 pixels and then they will upload
