Angry Time to notify myself to DVLA

Hello.

In few words, an almost imperceptible stroke. As soon as I can I must notify DVLA. I'll find the courage very soon.

I spent 27th July 2021 disorientated in A&E. After almost a year pushing NHS for diagnos and advice, at last I have an answer. Even an opthalmolgy appointment I obtained last November said I am OK to drive. My optician can't understand why I wasn't tested fully by the hospital. My optician is right. I must not drive. I have a print-out of the Visual Field Test done earlier this week by my optician. There is a definite and significant vacant area in the field of vision. Fortunately I had a bit of a remnant of good sense and I have not been driving.

Anyways.

In this forum I have encountered some good kind knowledgeable people. I want to say. Thank you, thank you and thank you.

May God be with you.

Stephen.

I am so sorry to hear that; you are of course doing the right thing in not driving any more and it is brave of you to admit it. I wish you very good fortune.

Hi Stephen,
So sorry to hear you will have to give up driving, and sounds as though you’ve had a bit of a nightmare on the diagnosis front. Best wishes for the future, and fingers crossed you might get passed fit to drive after a period of time.
Hopefully you will still log in occasionally, as I see you’ve been on the forum a good while, and dare say have a host of knowledge that may assist us Volvo drivers keeping them on the road.
I too have been so grateful for all the kind assistance provided even as a newbie.
Kind regards
Steve

Don't fret. The DVLA process is a ballache and post covid seems to drag on forever, but unless you're very seriously compromised in terms of health or eyesight you'll keep your licence.

Mrs Familyman fell ill with multiple sclerosis 15 odd years ago, and as a result is blind in one eye and weak in her hands. The DVLA interrogates the bejesus out of her every time renewal comes around - and rightly so, I wouldn't want her endangering herself or anyone else - but ultimately she always gets to keep her ticket.

The DVLA wont accept field test results from regular opticians. Every county has half a dozen or so DVLA appointed specialists and if the DVLA want you to have one you'll be referred to them. If they want to know anything else it's likely they will only speak with your consultant, as GP's and high street opticians are regarded as too easily swayed.

Sorry to hear you have been unwell, but as long as you're not in a box then you still have something to smile about. The DVLA process is tiresome, in some way worse to deal with than many illnesses, but from the way you describe things I reckon you may uet get to keep the ticket when you feel well enough to have a go.

Best of luck.

Thank you.

That is exceedingly helpful.

Thank you again.

And. My very best wishes to yourself and your wife and family.

Stephen
