Volvo allready told you what this could be now you just have to check it your self, sounds like take the door cards of and inspect the wires if you find anything get some contact cleaner from Maplin and spray a bit see if that helps

Good luck

Not so daft Leeds Lad took the words out of my mouth. Aren't foglights disabled on the car when the trailer is connected. Time for a close look at rear end wiring.

quick up date on this, ive had the door panel off and the contacts look ok, no corrosion showing anywhere. it looks like this is an on-going problem from a previous owner as the plastic and foam behind the door trim looked like it had been removed before and the wires to the door switch were taped up.
would it be the actual lock mechanism that could be faulty and not the wireing? and how do i get the lock out, i did take the 3 torx bolts out but it didnt move much lol. if i open the door while the engine is running i get no message come up on the dim, the only time i get drivers door open message is when the fog lights are turned on. ive also ckecked all the wiring around the battery etc and there was no moisture showing or any damage visible.
any help appreciated as its getting quite annoying now.

might have a shorting wire somewhere may be worthwhile checking the wires that run off the light switch a relay could also be the culprit. A BAD EARTH on some vectras has been known to do a similar thing.

Wiring diagrams can be found here:

http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/volvo-wiring-diagrams/

However this fault seems strange, there is no connection between the door open signal, which as a blue wire directly between the door lock switch and the door ECU, and the rear fog lights. The rear fog lights are controlled by the REM on a LIN/CAN signal from the light switch module.

The only common thing I can find is that the common switch wiring to the doors comes from the REM as well. I suppose it's possible a wiring mistake or some damaged wiring could be disturbing the wire to the drivers door at or near the REM.

finaly got round to fitting a different locking mechanism to the drivers door to try and sortout this issue but its still the same lol, its got me stumped now, i can't see any damaged wiring that would cause it either.
