Default Alarm system service required

Hi all

First post on this forum!

My car has this alarm on the dash.

I find a lot of info on this subject but very little relating to the 04 S40 2.4i auto (RHD). Looked for the alarm siren module under the front wheel arches but find nothing there.

Any help or pointers to where I can find more info please?

Chances are it is the internal battery in the siren unit that has failed and needs replacing but it is a bit of a job. It could also be a faulty sensor too but you would need codes read to pin point the failure.

I have the same problem on my 06 plate S40 2.0 diesel. I have looked at other forums on here and most indicate it is the alarm battery. I have taken off the front drivers side inner wheel arch, as it appears to be located there on other Volvo's, but I can't find it there. I have attached an image for reference purposes in case I missed it! Before I dismantle my car, can anyone actually point me to where it is located please.
Thanks
Andy

Sorry for delay but with it being Christmas and all.

On a 04 > Onwards S40

The Siren unit is in the Plenum Chamber, you need to remove the scuttle pan (4 x clips) and remove the wiper blade arms to gain entry. On a RHD vehicle it sits on the near side (passengers side). The siren unit is held in place by 4 x M6 bolts and should be torqued to 10nm.

When you've removed the scuttle pan then there is a protective plenum chamber cover which is plastic welded on at the back end. When you get this cover off you will think you've broken 3 clips but that is the welds. You need to clean the remains of the welds off by using a chisel or similar implement and then when finished use butyl tape or similar to re-secure the plenum chamber cover.

All the best with it. If you have difficulties post back up and I'll see if I can post up the VIDA pics.

Hi thanks for the information could I be cheeky and ask for the pictures/diagrams before I begin please. Better to know what I am getting into :-) I am hoping it is the battery in the unit and that it can be replaced, which seems to be a common fault. If not then at least I know what it looks like and can source a replacement. Do you know, if I remove it can I still drive the car or will its removal immobilise the vehicle?. Will a new one need coding to my car?Again, thanks for your advice.
