Failed 12v/Cigarette lighter Socket Volvo V60
I have recently purchased a 2011 T6 V60 and so far it has been awesome, the only niggle is that the front 2 cigarette lighter sockets are failing to supply power (the one in the boot is unaffected.) Using a voltmeter I have checked the supply to fuse number 22 in the small fuse box below the glove box and am reading 11+ volts. However, with the fuse back in (and I have tried alternative fuses) power is not reaching the socket. I have removed the cup holder trim and disconnected the socket, leaving me with the 'female' connector. Using the voltmeter here I am reading no voltage. I have then gone on to suspect that it could be the connector, and have subsequently removed that and applied the voltmeter to the positive and negative supply cables in turn....and still nothing. Any guidance on where to go from here would be greatly appreciated, and you'd be helping a very confused student out. Many thanks in advance!
As an aside, I have not yet touched the 12v socket which is facing the back seats. |

Just to check, when you tested them, was the ignition on? I believe the 12v sockets for the front and rear seats only work with the ignition on, while the boot is always live.

Cigarette Lighter
Hi, thanks for the interest, but sadly yes, I did make sure the car was turned on and the sockets ‘should’ have been getting power!

So assuming you have identified the correct fuse as a starting point and your tests were done correctly and with the ignition on - the results indicate an issue with the wiring between fuse and socket. Not the longest run of wire to check/replace.

Thanks ‘RDesign’! That does sound right, and forgive me if this is a silly thought, but would it not be fairly rare for the wiring to spontaneously fail? I was wondering if perhaps power went first to the socket in the rear seat and then to the one in the cup holder are, and thus if the rear socket was blown power would not reach the other? re chasing the wire, I’m currently a student in Bristol and having a hard time finding any auto electricians with availability until mid Feb! Any input much appreciated as always.

It's basic trim removal and lifting carpet back to have a look, you don't need an auto electrician. I would check the one in the back of the arm rest too. As for the one in the front it's a daft design putting a power socket face up next to a cup holder - obviously no chance of liquid getting in it is there? Mine works fine but looks like it's been full of coffee at some point in it's life.

these sockets fail because of over loading its probably melted one of the connectors it may be easer to rewire it rather than dismantling every thing
