Yes if you unwind the hose clip and open it up and slip it over the pipe and feed the end back into the screw and do it up ...

Default Be Warned.

My son's V40 has just been brought home with a wrecked engine. It has the most severely warped cylinder head I have ever seen. The Green Flag man said that the bottom hose had blown off. He had re-fitted it with a new clip but to no avail. I struggled to believe it could blow off until I read this thread. I do not know what state the old clip was in but he obviously felt that a new one was needed. I recommend that you heed the warning and check the condition of your lower hose clip.

While trying to diagnose my bizarre horn/fogs problem, I had a look at the clip. Mine's very rusty-looking. Guess this is a job I shall be doing next weekend

So ... if one carefully takes off the old clip and winds the new one back until it opens up, this can be replaced without a coolant change, yes? Would you advise I did a coolant change anyway ...?

I can confirm this.

I have a 99 S40 1.6. Mine went on the way to Scotland on the motorway. Temp shot up and had bags of steam coming from the bonnet. When i pulled over and checked, the jubilee clip had rusted so badly that it just snapped in half and the hose popped off and dumped all my coolant. Cost me about £1.50 for a pack of jubilee clips and just replaced them all....

No problems since.

I'm sorry to ask, but are there any pictures for this so I may confirm?
I need to get hold of Simon if he's still a regular?
