Default 2003 V70 D5 intermittent power reduction

I’ve seen a couple of similar but different threads. A month ago I suddenly found I was unable to keep up going up hill. Like in times past with petrol engines firing on 3 out of 4 cylinders etc. It then picked up to full power again. Today back to 4/5 cylinders or even 3/5. A mechanic friend felt the pipes leading to the injectors while running and showed 2 weren’t vibrating as well as the other 3. Any thoughts please?

Never heard of holding high pressure pipes to diagnose injectors.
You could do a leak back test on all 5 injectors and on a 2003, Vida might even allow an injector correction test.
I would start with a new high quality fuel filter if one hasn't been fitted recently and get idling and maximum MAF, fuel pressure and boost readings.

An 18 year old EGR may be clogged too.
