Hi folks,

Was getting a bit tired of seeing my old car looking sorry for itself with lots of rot/rust on display. Main issues were with the rear wings and arches which had been getting steadily worse for the past 5 years or so.

As I am quite attached to the old thing and did not relish the option of sweeping the car up off the drive with a brush I decided it was about time to get it sorted.

The car is not a particularly rare example being a 1985 240 GL Saloon in dark blue with B230A and auto transmission but as it belonged to my folks from new and has been my personal car for about half of its life I wanted to keep it for a while. Plus it drives very nicely indeed and only has 133k miles.

Anyway, after a bit of research, some quotes, some non-quotes (garages that wouldn't work on it because they thought it was mad to spend anything on a car that isn't really worth anything) I stumbled on some fantastically skilled guys in the Greater Manchester area who did a seriously good job of repairing it, with photos taken at every stage of the process.

Very pleased to have the car back looking very good indeed. As pictures speak a thousand words I will upload some of the highlights later today after my dinner.

OK, here we go - bear with me as I have not used external photo hosting links before. First, a few shots of the offending vehicle this summer before the work:

Doesn't look that bad (camera makes it look better than it is really) but wait until you see what was lurking underneath.

A poor previous repair to the sills was evident as things did not seem to line up too well under the metal:

Hole under the trim was quite nasty:

Rust? What rust???

I'm told these repairs should be good for another 25 years

We'll have to see I suppose!
