Mark,
Thanks for that, I was slightly concerned the magnetic plug had some dark sinister side effects. As its a bit of an unknown to me, I use the magnetic plug for the first couple of oil changes, then if I find a similar faff, can always swop back. Appreciate the comments on oil choices, when I was last faffing around trying to keep my cars going 30 years ago the oil choice was based on cost, as the minis seemed to change the oil by themselves through leaks. Seems everyone has a different preference, so will have a look at Dave’s suggestion, can’t say I’d heard of that brand. Will change in next month or so, and then probably around every 9-12 mths, probably only do around 8-10k per year. Cheers Steve |

Latest update on this.
All sorted and now have fully functioning new head unit, not used to all the techno wizzardry of streaming etc, but nice to have a decent radio. Luckily the Ebay punt I had taken a week or so ago on what appeared to be a straight 'plug n play' harness adapter arrived, and it works.... plugged directly into car harness and into back of the head unit. I did just verify as Dave had suggested the purpose of each of the cables coming from the car to make sure they matched up to the same on the head unit, but they were identical. Anyone that has a 940 without a separate amplifier, might benefit from this, Ebay weblink below, only £5.29 and free postage!!!! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184954343838 Some photos enclosed of what the adapter looked like. Excellent news Steve!
Glad it all came together and worked as it should! Once you get some music stored (mp3 format seems the most common) on your smartphone and link it via BlueTooth to your head unit so you can play music on your phone and hear it through the speakers and use the controls on the stereo to skip to the next track, back to the beginning of the track or previous tracks etc you'll wonder how you ddi without streaming for so long!

Really must look into why my (amplifier-equipped) 940 is permanently live (the amp). Currently have to pull fuse 26 when I park up for extended periods to stop draining the battery. On the plus side with the amp on and radio off I do get all sorts of weird haunted Volvo noises...
