Default Bought an S80 V8

Hi all, just recently picked up a relatively low mileage (62k) 2006 S80 V8.
Having not really been able to find anything that bad about them in terms of reliability and expensive problems, I thought I may as well just bite the bullet for the road tax and run it for a year.
My main concern was the balance shaft bearing which I'd read about online, but checked the engine number and seemed to sit OK with me.
So far I have changed the oil (Castrol) and filter (Mahle), air filter and plugs and it seems very smooth and has lots of go off the line.
Next up will be a few drain and refills on the transmission, and changing the diff oils, bevel gear, haldex and fuel filter, which I am yet to find. VIDA suggests its buried up in the rear axle somewhere.
It seems like a decent car, smooth, not the worst on fuel considering. Seem to be getting low 20s but not done any long runs yet.
Yes the road tax was a sting at 695 but the insurance was somewhat cheap and I figure I'll run it for a year and pass it on and move on to something else cheap and interesting. It has full service history.
Still early days but it seems like a nice cruiser. I will try and post in this thread with any interesting updates. Any other S80 v8 owners out there?
All the best

I've had the same engine in an XC90 and thoroughly enjoyed it all (apart from the tax). I average about 22mpg in mine.

Enjoy

I sold my S80 V8 after 5 years yesterday.

It only broke down once, which was due to the alternator voltage regulator failing.

The engines are fantastic. Really the only problem with these cars is how hard things are to access in the bay, due to the size of the engine. The alternator was a particularly difficult job.

Going well so far... Getting 25mpg average mixed driving.
Very smooth car , a great cruiser.
Believe I have a fuel pressure sensor up the creek, sometimes get a rough start or EML when cruising on the motorway. Looks like an easy fix.
I also have a weird fuelling issue - when I put petrol in, the pump keeps clicking off... Never had this on a car before very strange. Anyone had this?

Got a haldex service kit on order and need to change the bevel gear oil, done the rear diff.
Then will do the tf80sc service with Vida. Great!

Yes, not on a Volvo, a Toyota -it was linked to the EVAP system, a faulty solenoid and blocked charcoal filter.
You'll be looking for associated fault codes but it's also worth a check that the tank vent near the filler neck is not just blocked with debris or a kink in a pipe.
It's likely the tank pressure can't vent so it is forced into the forecourt pump thinks the pressure is fuel so stops the pump.
