Default Polestar engine remap on V70 - what insurance companies?

I'm thinking of having the Polestar engine remap done on my V70 2.5t but my current insurer, Chaucer Direct, won't insure the car if I have it done. I've explained in detail what the Polestar package is and I've even sent them all the information by email but they still won't underwrite the car.

Volvo Insurance (which is RSA) will, but what insurance are other people with the Polestar remap using?

if you do a search you'll find some information here. For me, when I enquired, most insurers either refuse or there is a circa £100 penalty (I think with Volvo Owner Insurance it is 20%, may have this wrong). In the end I concluded that the benefits are not worth the money.

Thanks Paul - I've done a few searches but need to be a bit more applied about it. Volvo insurance is a 10% premium, which seems OK and the quote is competitive but you know what insurance companies are like; they give you a good quote one year and hike it the next. I don't want to get saddled with having to shop around and getting turned away.

I don't know anything about this in the UK, but it's interesting to see that it's considered differently. Here in Sweden, Volvia (Volvo's "own" insurance company) adds nothing to the cost if you have added the Polestar tuning to your car.

I'm thinking of having the polestar upgrade put on my c30 d5, but I won't be telling insurance about it!
There's no way they can tell it is on the car, it's a risk to take but I've never heard of insurance companies sticking a computer on to read engine maps!

Yes and they won`t either, have your remap, just don`t tell your insurer.

I would be very careful making recommendations like this on a public forum. Failing to inform an insurer of a modification is a serious matter and could lead to criminal prosecution. Inciting people to commit a crime is also a crime.

Personally I would not be so sure that a loss adjuster will not check a whether a car has been tuned as it is quite common these days and very easy to check. They are paid to minimise pay outs by insurers. That would be a very expensive position to be in, no pay out for a wrecked car, difficult to get further insurance and possibly a criminal conviction.
