Default Swirl Arm

I recently bought an 07 D5 S80 and just noticed today that the swirl arm has dropped off at the engine side. The swirl arm has a circular hole at each end. Does anyone know if this is the original arm, or an updated replacement? I've popped it back on again but it feels very loose and may come off again. Also, it was quite oily in at the engine end. Is this normal?

That is the latest type ,
buy a new link about £3 and wrap a single layer of insulation tape around the ball on the swirl arm and press the link on .. could well last another 10000 miles ..

Cheers Clan. So does that mean it has actually been replaced? And should it be oily in there? You see, I've just bought it, and I'm wondering if I should complain.

thats the latest type "so say" improved , to be honest they rarely give trouble now .
Sometimes they get damp where the spindle comes out of the head .
If you have just bought it yes certainly complain , it can cause the engine to go into limp mode and if that happens on the motorway it is no fun , can be dangerous and cost around £500 to repair so get them to sort it .

What is a swirl arm? Genuinely interested, just not engine-minded enough (despite working for one of the largest Diesel engine producers in the world). Thanks!

Clan, what can cause it to be a £500 repair, as opposed to a £3 replacement arm?

Its not the arm that wears, it is the ball on the throttle arm on the head , this is £75 and you have to take out the injectors and take the top cover off to replace , injectors must have new pipes and seal kits hence the cost .

Hence the advice to line the ball with insulting tape. Many thanks.
