Default RTI Satnav update

I asked the main stealer about RTI updates for my V70 P3.
Apparently there is a DVD which allows my system to accept further USB updates.
He mumbled £250 but not available anymore.
As he seemed disinterested I didn't pursue.
Are these updates still exist and are available online?

I suspect your dealer is misinformed or you mistook them. There is a - one-time - SOFTWARE update which once installed (at the dealer) then allows you to install any downloaded updates via USB stick, in the car.

I vaguely recall it cost me about £80 a year or three ago.

The Sensus system which followed the RTI is no longer supported with map updates and so is now obsolete. Cannot think that the RTI is likely to be better supported so there doesn't seem much reason to pay to enable it to receive map updates by USB if there aren't any.

Hmm - TBH I cannot recall whether it was Sensus or RTI where I needed the software update to enable USB downloads to be self-installed - I've had both.

But I did have an update this year and maybe @poddack's vehicle does not have the last/latest update that was available (whenever that was), so it still may be worth investigating further.

@poddack - Post your version number here somewhere and someone will be able to advise if there is a later version, I'm sure.

Sensus navigation in cars from 2012-2013 includes RTI (Road and Traffic Information). The data comes from RDS TMC, which now is no longer broadcasted in Sweden, for example.

The system used in 2014-2016 is supporting RTTI, Real Time Traffic Information, a system distributed over the internet. It takes that the car has some kind of internet access, either its own SIM card or via a phone or similar.

My 2012 has this rather clunky route changing system but it is crude in operation. If there is heavy traffic, there is a service area on the M3 motorway to which it insists you should divert, traverse the car park and follow the winding exit road back onto the motorway. It does it every time there is any traffic on the M3 motorway! Other route suggestions are similarly useless but not so obviously mad and trap the unwary into using them. I've taken to ignoring these suggestions.

Google Maps does this sort of thing much better using location details of cars using Google Maps rather than the old traffic sensors which RTI uses. Many drivers are aware of these overhead sensors but do not know what it is they do,

Sounds like you have the older system with the pop-up satnav and it uses a DVD in the boot.

This is also outdated but you can upgrade to a newer DVD. This also upgrades the interface a little too so it looks a bit nicer. It's still out of date though - but it's about 10 years newer!

Think that’s probably the same as the pop up nav in my 2010.
If I remember the last update is 2017 maps - the DVD has a firmware update that installs in the nav unit. Got the disc on eBay for around £40, 3ish years ago. Rarely use it though now, preferring Tomtom on my phone.

The main feature with the built-in navigation system is just that - it's built in.
