Magnatec fully synthetic is awesome stuff, very thin when hot so finds it`s way out easily, use it in mine

Wasted on a high mileage engine where you need something a little thicker

I've never been a big fan of castrol products to be honest, they leave a bit of a bad taste in my mouth as they tend to over-market their products, GTX especially offends me as it's cheapo mineral oil dressed up with misleading words on the bottle to make people think it's good stuff.

Having said that, I'm not much of a brand adherent when it comes to oil - the manufacturer doesn't mean as much as the quality of the oil, which is why it's important to know what the various grade and quality codes on an oil bottle mean! I've been using ***hs Titan 10W40 for my last couple of oil changes and I have no complaints.

Is this to do with engines being a little bit "looser"??
Thanks.

My 850 has 210,000miles and I use a10/40 semi-synthetic

Would you guys trust Ebay for genuine Volvo filters? I see I can get one for the C30 for about £6 which is good. But could it be a Volvo box with an aftermarket filter... who knows.

I always buy my filters from the eBay user 'Anglia Volvo' and all his bits have been the real deal Volvo blue box stuff. Filters from him also come with a new crush washer; very handy.

Chris...

bit of scaremongering there. ive heard they have a non return valve too, which is good. but of the thousands of oil filters ive changed, big, small, genuine, non genuine, even the ones which are upside down, they have always had oil in them. the oil cant drain back through the oil pump unless you turn the engine backwards lots of times. some oil will drain back but not a sufficient amount to 'start with an empty filter' unless your oil pump is worn in which case game over anyway.

test this yourself. on first start up of the day count to see how long it takes for your oil light to go out.

change your oil and filter, then check the time it takes your light to go out with your new empty filter on. you will hear the engine go a bit quieter when the oil pressure finally comes up.

if you started on a 'empty filter' the light would take the same time to go out as when a new filter is fitted. and you would notice the few seconds it takes to get the oil pressure up.
