Perhaps I just disturbed some carbon and its burning off in the engine? Its almost like pinking.....Which again is possible if the ECU is use to a lower air flow and has adjusted over time due to the slow build up and then the huge clean out is causing the ECU to pink as it adjusts back to the higher normla flow rate.

Well cleaned the throttle body finally!

I think...... it's made a difference.

It was a bit rough on the start up on a morning.

I'll see if it's any better tomorrow.

Something I did notice when cleaning it out was the build up from the EGR pipe that connects to the right, there was loads of what can only be described as nuggets of carbon. Got all I could out. I can't imagine what the pipe itself is like. Might look at getting that section replaced!

Also, The guide specifies only 2 torx screws, there were 3 on mine.

Did you spray carb cleaner straight into the main part of the throttle body?

Please see pic -

yehh just to free up some of the sh** in there before trying to get it out with a rag.

should have left it longer before turning it on really, but had places to be!

i did it on my last car when the idle control valve was blocked with sh** - 1.8 focus petrol.

only reason it smokes up is the carb cleaner is burning off

the egr pipe is simple unbolt job, clean it out, rebolt - easy as pie! if it looked that bad then clean it out.

and try and get at the EGR itself to give it a little clean

If you really want to 'go to town' on it then you could remove the inlet plenum which sadly is also part of the rocker cover. You will need new gaskets but can take it all off and give it a dam good soak

I just got an old tooth brush and sprayed some cleaner up there and poked about with the tooth brush pulling huge clumps of carbon out. The first start up has a nasty tap for 1/2 a second and then all fine, just where the cleaner has removed oil.

I was thinking the other way of cleaning in there is to take the air filter off and run the car at 2k RPM and pray cleaner into the air filter. that should clean some carp out of the inlet....
