I always take out legal cover for the £20 or so a year, despite being able to deal with any issues that may arise.I see it as generally the less stressful option. Having a lawyer dealing with things normally gets the ball rolling quicker than letters from 'man in the street'. Even if you are a lawyer yourself, or have the knowledge, other companies that may be involved with the claim, may only 'listen' to a professional lawyer. Its also always helpful to have an independent professional fighting your corner, and or a second viewpoint. A major plus is it should all be covered for the £20 or so one pays each year.

As in all things there are good and bad. I had legal cover 10 years ago when involved in an accident that was not my fault, handed the claim over to the legal cover people to claim the uninsured losses back. Wife who was injured in the accident had a superb lawer acting for her, her claim settled quickly and a good setlement, I had a real muppet of a legal cleark 4 months after the wifes claim settled I am still chaseing the guy asking what is happening only to be told " yours is not the only claim I am dealing with you know, I have over 400 cases on my books" he got the message when I told him to hand the case over to someone less busy than himself and I was contacting his MD. after a couple of phone calls case eventualy settled by another in his office 3 weeks later.

Pays your money takes your chance.

Have to sat Green Van Man's experience matches my own only claim for injuries. Solicitors were appointed by Insurers, and absolutely awful.

I had the distinct impression I was an unusual case, in that I wanted a fair payout for a genuine injury, rather than just a fast buck for feigning whiplash. The medical 'expert' appointed by the Solicitors didn't even examine me, just kind of winked, and then wrote a report that specified the wrong limb (mine was an elbow injury). The Solicitor seemed surprised that I wanted it corrected as it might delay things, but I insisted on a another medical report. Second report was performed by another totally disinterested 'orthopaedic surgeon' who simply offered to say whatever I wanted him to say.

In the end I insisted upon employing my own medical expert, and paid from my own pocket for an MRI scan as proper evidence (cost of which I recovered). I really should have sacked the solicitor too, but it's hard to find a new solicitor that'll take over a case from another. The whole approach seemed to be bordering on fraud, of which I wanted no part. I'd certainly be reluctant ever again to use a solicitor appointed by an Insurance Company.

I was going to go that route and use Carole Nash this year as they've been pretty good to me with my bike insurance but today I got a pretty good deal with Admiral and got both my Civic Type S and the Volvo fully comp for me and the missus at £330

I recently asked Volvo insurance for a quote on my V90 , they already cover my 850 at reasonable cost , the quote was Three times the cost of Esure, when I pointed this out to the girl on the phone even she remarked at the differance, but I am sorry we don't price match !!!!.
