I happened across a series of programmes on BBC1 Wales called "The Crash Detectives". It followed the work of the dedicated crash scene investigators based in Cwmbran and covering the Gwent force area. It was a very interesting series and well produced and factual without being overly dramatic like some of the C5 and ITV content which is around. It also had an added element for me as I grew up in this area.
Anyway in episode 4 they responded to a double fatal involving a Fiesta where the car was fitted with a crash emergency assistance which it would appear to be very similar to the Volvo system. They went to some extent to explain the system and how it worked and it was interesting that they said this was the first time they had such a system trigger an alert in the Gwent force area (even though the Volvo system has been around for a while now). Anyway, if anyone is interested then it is episode 4 of crash detectives and it starts with this incident. Available on iPlayer. And if anyone is particularly interested in such things like me, then the whole series is still available, although episode 1 currently expires on 16th May.
