Default AA "repairs" cover

Quidco offering £60 cashback for a £100+ AA policy, which makes Roadside, Recovery & Onward Travel a bargain £50. No brainer....

(if you sign up with Quidco please use my referral: http://www.quidco.com/user/836687/ )

...but they also do a "repair" policy which is an extra £95 a year on my V40..... apparently this covers up to 5 repairs a year, each up to £500, with a £35 excess if you call them out to the repair and they can't fix it. Next year the max number goes up to 6, so this is basically an ongoing repairs warranty, and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience of these things and would like to comment.... basically I don't think I'll get three £100+ breakdowns in a year to warrant the extra cost but if, say, my clutch was on its way out, a new clutch would be £350ish, so wouldn't this be a bloody good insurance policy against parts breakdown?

Incidentally, RAC prices are about £20 more across the board with cashback. I would normally go with RAC but I KNOW I rang them up after the turbo blew and (thinking it was stupid not to be on Recovery from the outset) asked to be upgraded to Recovery, but that was the last I heard about it... assumed I now had Recovery.... then I got my renewal pack and it turns out they haven't upgraded me at all. They haven't charged me, but that's not the point, I do a lot of long distance travelling so it could have been another very messy breakdown. Not happy with them at all although their breakdown patrols have always been excellent for me and the last guy did well to tow me to a local garage who would replace my turbo with courtesy cars at 5pm on a weekday!

I've only been an AA member for one year, and never had to call them out. All other times I've been with RAC as they're usually cheaper.... but not this time!

NB: Quidco additional cashback offer ends in 6 days but they and TopCashback.co.uk both offer decent cashback for AA and RAC policies
