Default MY22 V60 order error

Hi everyone. Not sure if I am posting this correctly. I ordered a Volvo V60 MY22 in December 2021. I felt I was being pressured by the dealership to purchase one of their floor models but I wanted to order one with the specifications I desired. So the order was sent through with some money down. They said it would take 3 months to arrive. I got notified that it had arrived mid May and started getting everything prepared from an insurance perspective. However, when they sent the specification sheet, it was not the same V60 I ordered. It was a different exterior and interior colour. It had a bunch of extra add-ons that I did not want as they have no value to me. And it excluded some options I had ordered that do have value to me. In addition, the cost was nearly 6K more than the actual one I had ordered. They sent me some vague response that there was some mix-up somewhere along the ordering and assembly chain and that this has never occurred before. I get it. I'm sure things happens. But the options they presented going further seemed quite insulting. They said I could:

1) Take the model that had shown up with 1, 200 dollars off (it would still be more than the one I had ordered and not have certain things I want) even though it's a different colour.
2) Take a similar floor model that is the same colour, doesn't have some of the things I do value, but has a bunch of add-ons I dont care about and is still more expensive. Or..
3) Reorder for MY23 but then I would be paying more because the model specifications are changing and would have to wait another 4 months to get the vehicle.

I don't think any of these options are good enough personally. I am meeting them in person to go over options but wanted to see if anyone had experience with this or advise on what to do next. I am leaning on waiting for MY23 but want to hold them to the price point I was offered on my originally ordered model.

Thanks for any help.

IANAL but my starting position would be - repetitively in the face of every one of their suggestions or excuses - that they supply the ordered vehicle.

And I'd start talking to Volvo UK and not rely on the dealership. Make sure it is ALL done by email / in writing. Keep an audit trail. Copy Volvo UK and if you can find an address, copy the Swedish HQ on all correspondence. Do NOT rely on anything the dealership tells you verbally. Someone, somewhere, f****d up royally and the chances are it is in the dealership.

If it were me I'd be asking the dealer, Volvo UK and the factory to produce a copy of my order specification. If it is not the same as the one they gave you a copy of when you ordered (they DID give you one, didn't they?) then simply ask why. If it IS the same, then "where's that car, then?" I'd want to know where in their order-to-factory process the order 'altered', if it did.

You may not get what you want car-wise, but refusal to play their game, and to insist on what you ordered, for the time being, will heap the pressure on them. You may get a better offer than currently on the table, down the line.

And if it were me, I'd seriously consider consulting a lawyer or CAB to make sure I understood my legal rights here before going any further.

But that's just what I'd do. And I'd be prepared to walk away and demand my deposit back, with interest (and possibly some goodwill compensation).

But sticking out for your spec, on a car ordered now, at the same price point, would be a win - basically, the extra cost they'd incur recompenses you for the extra time without a car and general inconvenience (not that the sums would be equivalent, but the principle is sound).

Thank you much. I think I am gonna dig my heels in. I have the specification sheet of the original order that I got when I placed the order so that's no problem. I would stick with my original model that I wanted or a new model year model with same specs at the same price.

Whatever you do, do not accept the car (or any car) and drive it away until and unless it is exactly what you are prepared to settle for, or they have promised in writing to 'upgrade' it to add missing options AND put in writing that if this turns out not to be possible or achieved within a defined timescale, they will take the car back and refund fully. (They won't agree to this, so - basically - don't accept any verbal commitments and take away a car you may be lumbered with.)

You may have to pay slightly more for a MY23 car, but not as much as the full price differential - there is a deal to be done there, I'm sure.

Just curious - you said 1200 dollars ... are you in the USA? (This is a UK forum).

Whoa! I missed that dollars thing! I assumed Edmonton London, UK.
Whilst the principles of my approach probably still apply, I'd assumed a UK environment, so OP should definitely take legal advice locally. (And where I said 'Volvo UK', obviously that should be whatever PO's country Volvo HQ is - the one that manages dealerships in-country and is owned by Volvo.)

I suggest OP changes their sig to say Edmonton, Canada! This is a UK forum and whilst overseas posts are welcome, it helps us here to know when that is the case!

No, it's a multinational forum.

Thanks ... I assumed (given that it is org.uk) that it was a UK forum.

Well, it is the forum of the Volvo Owners' Club, a UK organisation which may have overseas members but which is UK-located and all of whose events are UK-based ... but the forum does have members and users all over the world, I guess.

It's the internet, after all. China aside, it's not yet entirely geo-fenced.
