BMWs with Crippled HiFi

I see that BMW is delivering new cars with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto removed. They say it's due to the chip crisis and that there will be an over the air update sometime in the summer.

Obviously they can't upgrade the Hardware over the air so it seems the software has not been fully developed to suit the new chips.

Is this the Volvo problem?

Not quite sure what you mean ... on the Sensus OS version then AA/Carplay has always been an optional extra. Are you meaning AA/Carplay functionality with Volvo's new AAOS?

The 2022 Google based system that does not have CarPlay.

I'm suggesting they have the same problem as BMW with undeveloped software. The BMW answer is just to delete both CarPlay and the Android version and tell their buyers to wait for an upgrade. I think the Volvo answer is marginally better.

Although the new Google platform on SPA cars is the Android Automotive Operating System, I am under the impression that it doesn’t yet allow for connection / integration of neither Apple IOS phones nor Android phones…
