Owned the 740 for around 5 years and then PX it for a new LHD Toyota Corolla in 2007. Sold up in France in 2010 and in the UK bought a 1989 240 GLT auto estate. Moved to Republic of Ireland for 30 months and drove to the UK. Owned the 240 the longest at 10 years and sold in 2018. In 2016 also bought a 1996 940 LPT Auto estate. My workhorse. James. |

I had worked with a guy who became a friend, wasn't just a "friend at work", who was enthusiastic about the solid engineering in Ovlovs. His daily was an RX2 with a Cosmo 12AT and running a MoTeC M4 ECU which he'd had tuned on MoTeC's engine dyno, and that was 100% reliable for the 25 years until he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy but let's not speak about that awfulness ..
Anyhoo, I'd bought a '93 Legacy RS due to being MASSIVELY impressed with another workmate's '94 WRX - that was before all the hat-backwards folk cottoned onto WRX's and insurance was cheap 'cos mostly retirees bought Legacies. However a few years later & after people realised a Legacy RS was a WRX powertrain in a different body, the criminals realised it too, and mine was stolen from near the station & trashed during use in a bank robbery. Another mate from school reminded me that 242GT's had existed (I'd forgotten by 1997-ish), and I figured that was a perfect combination of "strange" & unusual, yet easy access to parts, and a vehicle which no self-respecting criminal would ever want to be seen in. Perfect station car. But then my rotary-loving mate started whispering in my ear ... and the guy who'd reminded me 242GT's existed was so enamoured of my 242GT that he sold his Mk1 Escort GT (no not GT1600!) and bought a 242GT for himself. Except it was an OEM '79 auto one, so he bought an '80 with a seized engine and a few dings for the manual 'box & Virgos. Meaning he had a spare dinged engineless shell with shoddy black paint he didn't know what to do with ... ... and which I bought in 1998, which is the car that's been quite thoroughly overhauled for the slightly-Frankensteinian sort-of "240 Group A Turbo" (also with MoTeC management - vale Darren) that's still sitting in the garage waiting for the recent unprecedented rainfall to stop. Just coming up a year in May with my Green Goddess 1995 960 estate (Fat Slag #1) but I loved her so much she's been joined by the 2006/07 S80 V8 (Fat Slag #2)
Both are great cars for Smiles per Mile but my 960 is just too gorgeous and remains my favourite. Just don't tell the other fat slag don't want her getting jealous |

Unfortunately my answer has to be ‘too long’, so I sold the money pit (to a Volvo indie, who knew the history, I didn’t just dump it on some unsuspecting punter)
However, I enjoy this forum...

I've owned 5 Volvos in my lifetime. I bought my current one, a 940 SE LPT in April 2012 and had it converted to lpg in 2014. She's done c200,000 now. Without doubt the very best car I have ever owned!
