I am 'thinking' of getting a tow bar for my 2016 XC70. I won't be towing a caravan, maybe trailer tent, small trailer for tip trips etc, always wanted a small trailer. I seem to have located a gen fixed Volvo towbar, for decent money, and was going to go down the gen electrics module route. But , it comes with a 13 pin plug. is this the new norm, or this a european thing? What are most uk plugs? I see they do adapters , but it says GB next to a 13 pin adapter that has 2 x 7 pin sockets. why would you want 2 7 pins? Or is the 13 pin to single 7 pin the correct one? OR are there different 7 pins for different countries?

The 13 pin is the newer standard for towing electrics, it allows charging of caravan batteries operation of the fridge etc.
For you to tow a standard trailer a 12N type connector which will allow the trailer lights/indicators to work is required, so just purchase a 13 to 7 pin adaptor and you will be fine

The adaptor thingy for 2x7 pin sockets was the old system - the first 7 pin socket, coloured black is for the road lights, the second, usually white, is for caravan electrics (charging, reverse light etc.)

Just get the adaptor, cheap on amazon, you'll be fine....

Remember when you fit the genuine Volvo trailer module- your car will likely need a software update at the dealer for it to work.
