Yes, you are right: sale by public auction is the acid test of value.

The owner seems to be a scrapyard (judging by the other lots for sale) and an experienced seller, I rather suspect he/she has realised there will be a tiny and very specialised market for such an obscure item. If he/she exposed it to public auction it might only get bids at scrap value, whereas if it remains offered for sale over a longer period the one person in the nation that might consider paying over the odds for a rusty chassis plus a few desirable badges might see it.

I would be surprised if we don't see it offered repeatedly over the coming months (in the same way that we have seen the V8 many times). The vendor may adjust the price downwards until I reaches its value (again like the V8). What is it worth? Well the chassis itself is scrap, so £200, the pre-1978 244 bits (lights, grille etc) might make £300, and the 5 jubilee badges (assuming they are all there) will have a value of their own, it is hard to say how much.

I think we'll see the motor car again (maybe at auction next time).
