The first Volvo here was a 265 GLE (FST 520 X). Got it back in the early 80s. Silver metallic with full black leather interior, all the knobs and whistles. Great motor that was finally brought down by the underbody. Went to the yard with about 235000 on the clock and still running fine.
Enjoy the 'new' motor.

That's a real beauty Graeme, I am very jealous, my first Volvo was a 245 DL estate from the same year (GGT 676T) and I wish I still had it, one day I WILL own another one, or maybe one like yours
Enjoy it mate!

Great motor Graeme.
It's good to see a few of these avoided the track!

Well, I think it's probably about time you came out and admitted it Graeme...
You're hooked. Volvo buying is an illness and there's nothing to be ashamed of! That does look lovely though. Great spec too. Be careful with the AC though, R12 went out with the arc and I think even Noah himself had problems getting hold of the stuff! Beauty of it is though, that it runs at much lower pressure than R134a, so less likely to leak away quickly! Enjoy Burt. Excellent name BTW Steve

The 265 looks brilliant! If it wasn't for the old 3-speed auto, I would have been bidding myself.
I converted the a/c on my 1986 Mercedes from R12 to R134a using a can if converter fluid, bought cheaply (c£35) on the internet. I didn't have high hopes, but 4 years later the a/c still works fine. John |

Looks fab and the the price paid was a bargain! Over here in Germany, the the same car would probably fetch €12-15K!!

Thanks all who have commented - much appreciated. Still no up to date pictures I'm afraid, I'm taking Burt to his first show on Saturday, so will take some then! But what an amazing thing to drive.......it does feel 36 years old tbh, and yes, that 3 speed auto box takes some getting used to. (OK it is bloody awful compared to a modern auto!) But once realised that it will assume forward momentum in its own good time all is well! People refer to modern Volvo's as "tanks"...........well you don't know the meaning of the phrase till you have driven one of these!! I LOVE it! Thanks again all,
