Default V50 faulty Radio

I have a faulty V50 Radio (2006), it works intermittently when the interior of the car is hot, so I’m assuming it’s a solder joint issue. I have tried to have it fixed but to no avail. Does anyone know if its possible to buy a replacement radio on eBay and if it will work or do I need to have a code. Apologies if this has been posted before, I’m new to the forum and couldn’t find anything. Any advice appreciated.

Sadly it's not that simple. The "radio" consists of a number of fibre optically connected modules. The part in the dash is the ICM (Infotainment Control Module) but it's not an all-in stereo. It interfaces via a fibre optic MOST network with the amplifier, the AM/FM Module, CD module plus others. Each one of these modules is, as I understand it, coded to the car making replacement an expensive dealer job.

When you say the radio is intermittent, do you mean just the radio functionaility or the display in the dash in general? Does the display continue to work when the radio doesn't? Does the CD player work without issue and do the other car features work OK on the ICM in the dash?

Ok thank you for the information and insight. The radio and CD player functionality is intermittent, it’s like there is no power going to it, so no functionality at all. However when the inside temp of the car is hot, Radio and CD player work as normal with no issue. The display doesn’t seem to be impacted as it still shows temperature and fan speed etc. even when the Radio / cd player is not working. It sounds like there is no alternative but to have Volvo replace the unit which I assume will be very costly. Thanks again for your help.

If the ICM display/functionality is always functioning and it's only the audio functionality that goes the first thing I'd be checking would be the connections to each component.

The CD module would need the console panel removed to gain access, the amplifier (if you have high performance or premium audio) will be behind the carpet on the left rear boot wall, the AM/FM module is under the parcel shelf if you have an S40, not sure where it is on a V50. Check that each connection into each unit is secure. Page 10 of this might help.

Do you have reversing sensors,if so, are they working (mute/bleep radio) .When my radio sometimes doesn't work (then my sensors don't).After going through a re-entry cycle, works. I have put it down to a relay issue, but haven't followed it up yet.

How do you go through a re-entry cycle? My stereo and reversing sensors have stopped working.
