Engine rattle on V50 2.0D D4204T
Hi. Got problem today with 2.0D pre-DPF. Starts difficult and rattle on idle when engine is cold or hot. No warnings on the dash and nothing in vida. Still revs not in limp mode but I can hear turbo howl or turbo whoooo sound don't know how to explain that . I suspect it could be boost leak but would it affect so much? I still can drive it like I did before but it shakes on start and idle. Like I said temperature doesn't play role.
I also topped up at ASDA before it started but topped up there before and different cars. Never had something like that. thanks in advance |

Mine has been hard to start when cold (intermittent) doesn't really rattle much, but is rough on idle - a bit like a petrol misfiring when HT leads start breaking down - puts small judders through the whole car. Also random loss of power & unwillingness to rev beyond 2500 rpm (not limp mode) sometimes triggered by very bad road surfaces or hard acceleration. Occasionally on hard acceleration the turbo whistle is really noticeable....again intermittent So far:- I've had the entire fuel line replaced ( constant diesel smell, rough running & eventually air-locked. Used non supermarket fuel & cleaning additives or premium fuel Just had the CEM software reloaded by Volvo. Obviously, new fuel lines fixed the leak/air draw. I think the better quality fuel helped, but not entirely sure. The CEM upload was for a different issue, but seems to have smoothed out the rough idle a little - but too soon to know if the other issues are fixed. Sorry I can't help with your diagnosis, but am now wondering if we both have air leakage on the inlet pipework......my next check will be squirting some WD around the pipework (inboard of the MAF?) to see if the revs rise. Hopefully one of the many wise people here will be along to help you soon. |
