We collected our 09 XC90 today and it is shod with a hotch potch of Tyres from 3 different manufacturers. I know I've read something about this being bad for the AWD system, is this the case?

I'd rather buy a new set of tyres than knacker the AWD............... plus I'm looking for a good excuse to get a set of General Grabbers.

The AWD is not designed to use different tyres on the same axel so it could cause damage in the long term. Haldax say you should use the same tires all round.

exactly the question many of us have had and you'll get mixed opinion on here. I have the grabbers and I am very impressed with them. They coped in the snow we had down south in the last winter, handle brilliant in the wet and cope well in dry conditions. Tread life is very good also. If I was driving in more winterous conditions say on skiing hols or lived in less favourable climate I would go for the wintracs. So really depends on where you intend to drive, but either you'd be happy with I am sure....

Ok, thanks.

I'm sick of losing out on business when it snows but given how infrequently it snows down here and how well they are thought of I think the grabbers make more sense.

Smile New Goodyears - selling Conti's

I have just put Goodyear Wrangler HP's on my XC90 so will report back in a month or so with how they perform on and off road. We shall see!

The original Continentals (R18) are now for sale in Sales section of this site if anyone is interested. They are brand new (8 miles - car delivered this morning).

I've been running the GoodYears for a while now and have today ordered a new pair for the front (Vredestein still in short supply). My front pair has lasted me approx 25k of mainly town/rural driving. Far better than the Conti's. Also grip in snow has been excellent last winter.

thanks for that Ron. I deliberated for ages and read loads of reviews and blogs et.c. eventually coming to the conclusion that the Goodyears were probably the best compromise for me. Glad they behaved in the snow - that was one of my concerns v the vredesteins which I gather are superb in the cold.

One of my very first posts on this forum was on the Goodyear Wrangler. We used them on our Range Rovers when we had them as patrol vehicles. Used them all year round at high speed and could still tow Artic's in the snow during the winter.

I would only choose the Vredestein because of the higher mileage that Roy has got from his. But the Wrangler is a very competent tyre. Nokian worth considering too.

Yes, thanks JimG, I did read your early post re your use on police motorway vehicles and that was a big selling point for me......I viewed that as quite a recommendation.
