Default Help needed with headlamp wipers

Hi All

I am trying to locate an early headlamp wiper system for a 164. The system is made up of 2 single, half wiper bonded to the headlamp glass and driven via cables from a central motor.

Any help in locating a new old stock system, used, parts is very welcome.

I am sure someone out there has a set, or knows some one that has a set in a box up the loft! If you can help me, please get in touch. I would be happy to pay a finders fee for any one that can help locate a set.

I have attached a photo of the system as fitted to a P1800. I have also posted a scan of the parts manual.

Any and all help is most welcome

Regards

Neil

This page is also in the late 164 book along with the late 140 book. I don't have an early 140 book to check against this early 164 one.

I have had a 164 for every year they have been available, and still have 2 late-models with headlamp wipers. However, I've never come across the system you want: all mine have the wiper-blade operating shaft sticking out of the bodywork below and outboard of the headlamps themselves.

None of my earlier cars had them, but I can't comment on P1800s and 140s, also I don't have a book here to advise further. However I think I've seen the type you want on a P1800 at a rally, so I'm not saying they don't exist!

Interesting- so these lamps use a compressor- never noticed that before. Better than electrical? Certainly less complex and neater.
Ah! Now looking closer I see they have flexible drive shafts- freaky!
Wonder if compressed air would be a possibility for that application though...

Have you tried the Volvo clubs in Sweden (or perhaps other countries). Maybe you could post a message. Perhaps the UK club has contacts with other clubs.

I tried searching for "strålkastartorkare" but couldn't dig up anything.

Anyway hope you get your project complete. And let us know when it's done.

See you at the next Brum meet.

PS. try the German sites. They seem to have the same fascination with collecting stuff as us. try this one: www.ALTER-SCHWEDE.de

Or... I heard there's a Volvo graveyard in Sweden (well actually it's not a graveyard because any of them are capable of getting up to run again), maybe you could visit

Hello

I put a vintage Volvo madman here in Denmark started to see what he can get. He is known for being able to find a lot of old volvo gear in Sweeden/Denmark.

Good day -
