Default Rev counter.Mirror.Tow bar

Hi I will be looking soon for a rev counter for the 140,I'm so used to having one on the 940 & 960, one in keeping with the style of the 140. what would it run from. Also I would like to replace the internal mirror with a dipping mirror. Was there ever one fitted to the 144? Last of all and I know that it'a sacrilege to some of you, a tow bar so that I can eventually travel to various rallies. Any advice appreciated.

Towbar should be easy to find used, they last for ever. Get it shot blasted and painted with chassis black and it will look like new.

Don't know about 140s, but my 164 has a dipping interior mirror. Take a photo of yours, including the fixing.

Rev counter... a few choices I can think of:

Option 1.

Volvo GT or Rally instrument set. Nice, but expensive

Option 2.

Pod mounted rev counter. Some genuine period expensive Volvo ones around, but also cheaper alternatives

Option 3.

If you are you prepared to cut a hole in the dash, a late 70s Triumph 4cyl rev-counter is the right size to fit neatly alongside the strip speedo (relocate some switches) and the font nearly matches the Volvo speedo so it looks quite authentic. I did this in my first 164 and it looked good.

Option 5

Rally cluster, even rarer and more expensive than option 1

I think somewhere or oither I do have a GT cluster. I also have a new Volvo pod rev counter. It is a 164 version so will need converting but it is new. The rev limot is slightly different to the 4 cylinder version.

I'd have thought your interior mirror was dipping. I think the UK spec cars were by then?

No my mirror doesn't dip, will post fixing dimensions later. I have the ribon type speedo so the tacho will probably need to be pod mounted.

Dimensions. I wonder if a 240 mirror would fit?

Here's a poser! Is the back end chassis on a 145 the same as a 144? Would a tow bar from 145 fit 144?

Hi George, the whole floor layout is the same for 144, 145 and 142. So the towbar should fit.
