Steering angle sensor after wheel replacement
So I replaced my old torn up steering wheel with one in pretty much mint condition, just 30 quid! (volvo saab breakers nottingham, would recommend).
Anyway it was fairly painless (just did it again diagnosing took about 15 minutes) just unplugged battery, airbag out, wheel off new wheel on, move buttons and wiring over to new wheel. I turned the car on last night and no errors popped up, turned the wheel full then opposite lock a few times to feel out the wheel a bit and left it there. I drove it this morning and an error code popped up "anti skid temporarily unavailable" almost imediately after pulling off my drive and then when I start to drive it I get a "anti skid service required". When I look in VIDA it says steering angle sensor isnt working. The readout seems to be frozen on it too at 144 degrees. The thing is, it was such a painless procedure to change the wheel I just cant believe that its nackered the sensor at all, its alligned correctly and all plugged in correctly. If I clear the codes off they come back imediately. I took the wheel apart again to make sure it was all alligned propperly and wires in correctly. Am I taking another trip to the breakers or am I missing something here guys, should I be calibrating the sensor or something? Beyond just making sure its 2.75 tunrs from CW as it states on the sensor? |

Resolved for now
I am going to leave this here for future for anyone else who may get this error.
When I had initially messed with the steering wheel, I had not read the yellow instructions on the sensor telling me to turn 2.75 times CCW from the fully CW position, I dont think this was important anyway as I kept the sensor where it was but take note of this, and be careful around the plastic sensor. when I initially turned my car on and got the "anti skid temporarily unvailable" I was unaware of the fact that the car was supposed to be running a re-calibration test. I believe when it is in the "temporarily unvailable" mode it is running the test, you are supposed to drive (I think the manual said) under 50kph for 30km. If you get the "anti skid service now" message the test will not run correctly. I simply kept clearing off the "service now" until I got the "temporarily unavailable" message and then drove at 30mph for maybe 500 meters, rather than gunning it down a 60mph stretch of road outside my house as I did this morning and it cleared completely. NICE! |
