The xc90 died on me again today unfortunatele. I started it fine in the morning, dropped the kids off to saturday school and went grocery shopping. I quickley had to move the car as there was traffic warden. quickly paid for items and went back to the car and it wont start. when I turn the ignition i hear a click from rear left of my car and also from the glove compartment. I tried looking for breakdown cover on my phone. then I though let me try the key again. I worked 1st time.
In the afternoon car fired up ok. picked up the kids and came home. waited outside the house as we were going to relatives. there was a LOW BATTERY sign. Then I tried starting up the car again and nothing. Used my other car to jump start it agan and went to visit relatives. got home ok. then tried starting the car again as parked too far out of driveway. and it wont fire up again. On my last service the garage said the battery was weak. can anyone confirm this would be the case? And what is the best battery to replae it?

The best battery? The best and quite likely the cheapest is from your dealer .

It may be the just the battery that needs replacing or it may be the alternator/charging circuit at fault. Charge the battery with a mains charger and get the alternator checked.
You may have a parasitic load - one that drains the battery when switched off.

He gave me the speech of short journeys killing battery so I need to do long journeys. I've been driving for 17 years and never seen a battery issue. Most my journeys are short trips.

I would say that is a good price for a new OEM battery
