That Amazon seems to have stalled at £4,100 - so perhaps you are right: maybe it did jet there via some shill bids (now removed) and is now finding it hard to make headway.

Maybe things are starting to bite in this sheltered corner too, Alan!? 🤔

Default 740 Classic Car!

Here is one I've just noticed:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284898407...4AAOSwF1Ji0lN~

32 years old, 150,000 miles, MoT until February, converted to turbo + lots of other stuff that must have cost the owner thousands. So far there is just one bid at £1,200 with minutes to go.

That seems very cheap to me... perhaps the moral is that is just isn't worth modifying 30 year old motor cars :-).

Bobwalkin time.

As you will probably know Andrew, I struggle to see the point of warming up 30 year old family cars.

Reading through the list of stuff the owner did to the motor car, he must have spent thousands on it and got £1,200 back. Saying that: if I lived close to Salisbury and didn't already have 4 motor cars I'd have bought it for £1,250 this morn :-).

Well, he's modified an entirely unremarkable car 30yr old car into another, slightly faster unremarkable 30 yr old car, so everything he's done could be replicated just by buying a 760 off the bat. And one built by Volvo, not Joe Bloggs...

Had he left the original 740GLE with B230F as standard, he would probably have got £2-2.5k for it based on what i can see of its general condition. He woud then have been able to buy a genuine 760 Turbo and probably have change.

I agree with both of you chaps - 30 year old unremarkable cars are just that; I really can't understand why people spend lots of money on warming them up a bit (but it is something we see on these pages quite often).

This is one of the reasons I'm taking a very measured view on my latest sub-project for the RB. The project budget is £500 - minus whatever I can recoup from selling the K-Jetronic system complete, BW55 transmission and a pile of other bits (so maybe pretty well cost neutral I'm hoping).

:-)

The auction of that nice Amazon ends this eve; it is at £5,500 at the mo and seems to have made its reserve. It will be really interesting to see what it makes - my guess is £7,000 as it is a nice motor car.

:-)
