Well here's some tat from t'other end of the spectrum, hidden deep in ebay:
Late 80's 245, £650
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255563637278
Another junker, more wrong than right, wheels worth more than the rest, £950 (and listed under Fords):

The Jags are cheap enough, the 240 same, not sure about the Loads Of Trouble Usually Serious though!

As for what appears to be a 240GLT in the second link, he thinks the carb needs sorting out? Yeah, ok, whatever!

It will be interesting to see what happens with this one Andrew. It looks like a perfectly good motor car with a bit of rust here and there. I rather suspect someone will complain that the motor car has not ben MoT tested since it was 40 years old (although I'd say it doesn't matter one iota - but that is just my opinion).

If the auction doesn't get any bids, or it only just goes above £4,000 then we will know that the softening in prices we have seen in newer 240s has extended to historic vehicles as well. If it makes over £6,000 then the market will have told us the historic vehicle premium is still strong.

We'll see nest week :-).

The carb may actually be the problem! Especially as it won't fit the injection manifold.

Fair point, but if you want a car of a particular spec, that might be the only way to actually get one (even if it's not authentic). When did you last see an 82 (or even 83/84) GLT in decent order, never mind one for sale? Early GLTs are incredibly rare now. I know of the whereabouts of one 83 245 GLT, but I can't remember the last time I saw another B23E car. You see far more older but lower-spec examples.

One of my friends has done a huge amount of work to a late 80s 245 to turn it into an early car...partly for fun (that's the irrational part, I suppose), but on a more practical level because it's really hard work finding one that's actually any good in the first place. I think he bought and scrapped at least one early 245 with endless hidden rust before giving up and converting a later car. There were definitely 'bad eras' for 240s...some of the early cars rusted like hell, and they also seemed bad circa 1985. There was a similar issue with rusty gutters on very late 145s - doesn't affect the older cars.

I'm a staggering number of man hours (both my own, and those I've paid for) into the restoration of my 164, so this is not my first rodeo, either! The things we do for love...!

cheers

James

It's on GLT wheels, but it's not a GLT - it's got silver trim all over it! Probably a B230K.

cheers
