Break Disc Size - 17" or 17 1/2"
Hi All,
With my MOT looming, following an advisory last year on my front brake hoses, I'm planning to replace the hoses pre-MOT. Whilst doing this the pads are getting thin so I'm going to do these at the same time as I also have a hum from the wheel bearing at the front. There are two types of break pads listed for my vehicle - 17" and 17 1/2" = can anyone advise me on how to identify the difference/size I have? Thanks in advance as always. Nigel. . |

All UK spec XC90 (petrol or diesel) have 336mm diameter front brake discs (which is just over 13 inches, never understood why they refer to them as 17 inch brakes which I guess is the minimum wheel size that will fit over them but is not the physical size of the disc?)

Do you have part numbers for these discs. I'm in France in holiday and our 90 had to be recovered from the motorway as one of the front calipers was binding. Does anyone know if the volvo part numbers in france are the same as uk part numbers? Thanks. Also do we have caliper part numbers too. 2014 xc90 d5 200 BhP auto

This is something I've done recently. As @Tannaton has already said, all UK spec XC90s have 336mm diameter front brake discs. I ordered mine from a local motor factor (£90 for a pair of discs and a set of pads) and they were the correct ones. I documented the job on my YouTube channel and the video will be out this Friday (22nd April 2022 for those in the future who are reading this post). My forum name is also the name of my YouTube channel so it should be easy to find.

My model is a 2008 MY XC90 SE Lux - the disk turned out to be 17” stock.

Plenty of imports nowadays from multiple car brands. UK spec XC90's have 336mm front discs (as mentioned in this thread earlier). Although, taking the wheel off and measuring the discs to double check isn't rocket science either. Depending on the alloys it has, you might not even need to take the wheel off!
