Default Oh look another suspension question

HI all,

Thought I'd post in here, as its kind of related. Does anyone have Spring assistors fitted to their car? If so do they make a difference if car is fully loaded without towing.
The reason being when our car is loaded up with gear it sits rather low at the back? (does drag mud flaps occasionally) It has new shockers but I suppose over the years the coils have sagged, maybe I'm just imagining it.

So the question is would it be worth fitting assistors to the coils?

Cheers,

Chris

I fitted spring assisters to my old V70 and could not believe the difference they made to the car.
I decided I needed them because the back end of the car used to sag under the weight of 2 teenage children and their luggage and, of course, it was worse when the caravan was attached.
The whole feel of the car improved, even when there was not any load in the back, it felt "tighter" and much more predictable on badly surfaced roads without affecting comfort.
I decided to go for auxiliary springs rather than the rubber doughnut type of assister because I had known of spring breakages caused by them.
I used these: http://www.springassisters.co.uk/menu.htm

They took about a hour and a half to fit and were the best £80 I ever spent.

Hi Mike,
Do you still have them?
I am interested in them for mine.
Took our v70 / Avondale dart 556 (1300kg) out over Easter and the rear springs were right down, with the can, kids bikes on bike rack, and suitcases in boot it was heavily weighted down.
But when I took the van off it rose considerably. So the nose weight was too high will get a nose weight gauge.
Also i noticed at 60mph the car seemed to labour quite alot, in 5, the revs were at 2000 rpm, and the car strained alot.
However if i went at 65 the car towed alot better.
Should I have gone for 2.4T or D5?????
not a sign of snaking, Alko hitch working I guess. also mph was at 21 towing.
Once tripped into rough running but OBD deleted codes.
Weather was poor but good fun watch campers packing up and going home!!

i will have a look and get back to you.
i always use 4th not 5th for the amount of petrol/ diesel from not changing up and down all the time and strugling at 2000rpm is negligible from staying in 4th.
i would defo check you nose weight. speed just be carefull

Default nose weight guage

hi james
ref the weight guage, save your money and use your bathroom scales,i had a "proper guage"which packed up after a year,it started giving different weights without me changing anything in the frontbox.i have now started to use a square of flat plywood, sit scales on and i use a piece of 4x2 under the hitch, then gently wind up the jockey wheel, this should get you to within a kilo or so,(ps dont forget to weigh the 4x2 and deduct it from total weight.
cheers
sandy
