Replace headlights for MK3 Bi- XENON LED
Hi all...
Sorry if this has been asked before, I did have a search but couldn't find anything! Currently, my '14 v70 D3 has the standard headlight, but they are erm, not great (my wife phoned me on Friday night asking how to turn them on, they were already on) Has anyone swapped out the standard headlights for the MK3 Bi- XENON LED headlights??? |

LED Bulbs work well
I have some 55w on the dipped and I think 80w on the mains and happy driving up dark Welsh country B & minors with just dipped on.

As far as I can tell the dipped beams on my 2012 XC70 are HID Xenons but the main beams look much more yellow. Would they be old style Halogens and if so can they be easily replaced with LED bulbs? If so, what LEDs should I buy?

Yeah, only the dipped beam is Xenon, the main beam is still a halogen bulb. Though the Xenon bulb lifts up when the main beam is activated to assist it, hence why it is called Bi-Xenon.
As for doing an upgrade. I'm not sure whether the electrical connections will be a straight fit but without a software update and the level sensor fitting, it would always throw up error codes on the dash. |

Its a straight plug and play H9 bulb for the main beam. Go for a 6000k for the same light as the dipped.
No error codes, no re-programming and no fuss & took less than 10 mins to swap out both lights. Don't put lamps back until you've tested them as its possible to put the plugs on the wrong way round - it doesn't damage anything, they just won't work, change them around. Mine are 7200 lm.

That's much better news although I'm confused why there is a conflict of opinion on the matter. I'll start looking for LED replacement bulbs ASAP.

Does the 2012 XC70 have bulb out monitoring on the main beam bulbs? Or on any bulbs for that matter. I have yet to have a bulb fail so I have not experienced any warnings.
