Question braking and other issues

Hi All

I have had my XC90 2.4D5 auto for around 6 months and am encountering a few problems.

1. when braking lightly the car swerves to the right and when brakes released it straightens up, if you brake firmly it is not noticeable and there is no pulling under acceleration. i have seen a post that points to wishbone bushes but people have still noted issues once replaced. a local garage stripped and checked the brakes and the performance was equal on a brake tester!

2. the windscreen washers do not work, when the switch is activated there is no noise from the washer pump and then sometimes it will work and pressure up and spray the headlamp washers for about 1 second. is there just one pump that does them all ?

3. the rear doors do not open from the inside even with the child locks disengaged.

any help especially with the braking issue would be most appreciated.

Sorry, no help on the brakes, but there is one washer pump. It is supposed to spin one way for screen and the other way for headlamps. It is a known weakness. I replaced mine in under an hour. It sits behind the driver's (RHD) wheel arch liner. You'll need to drill out 2 or 3 of the rivets to get best access, but after that replacement is a doddle. There are two pump types (it is the electrical connection that varies) depending on year. I got mine on Ebay, it is a shared part with Ford (Mondeo, I think).

Hope that helps

Kevin

Have you had a digital 4 wheel alignment check carried out?

when did this come on ? Have you had just one wishbone replaced ?

My bet is that you have one volvo wishbone on there and some cheap copy where the bushes don't have the same compliance as the genuine part . i have been there, seen it all before ..

you need to have a good look at both front wishbones , compare the bushes , the Volvo ones will have VOLVO on them somewhere .

To answer your 3in the original post, its the door catch that has come adrift from the cable, mine has done this but the plastic part is broken so I need a new inside door handle, you need to take of the door panel, remove the 2 plastic covers on either end of the armrest and then undo the screws underneath, and then unclip the door card.

The brake issue will be the wishones without a doubt, if pulls straight when you loosly hold the wheel it is the rear compliance bushes mooving in the wishbone get a pair of volvo ones fitted they are only about £15 each more than pattern ones.
