Default 2015 D4 Trade In Value

Just took my 2015 d4 to be looked at for trading in. It’s a R Design lux nav auto with 143500 miles now.

Was offered £1500 as was told it needs 4 wheels refurbished, new bumper on front due to stone chips and a door needs repainted.

Walked away as I didn’t want to accept it.

Sounds pathetically low, even if it is for a less desirable S60.

It’s a V60. Has plenty of extras such as family pack and rear seat entertainment. I know these aren’t really things that will change the price.
It was at a big car supermarket.

The car I was looking at only had one key and had plenty of stone chips

Don't blame you. Although, a 10 year old car with nearly 144k isn't going to be worth much. What happens more than not is garages aren't interested stocking older vehicles, particularly those that offer warranties on their cars or only sell cars on their site that are a certain age. They probably gave you a low offer because in their eyes they need to spend x on it to put it on a forecourt, and add x to the price for profit. The £1,500 trade in car becomes a £3,500+ car on a forecourt quite easily, especially in today's market anyway.

Your best bet to get a higher price is sell private. You aren't going to get a good figure on a trade in, unless you're trading in against something much higher in value. They can give you more for your car in that instance, as they're making more selling the higher priced vehicle. Its business.

I was looking to trade in against a car at £20,500. I was hoping for around £3000. They were going to offer more but only if I took their warranty as well as gard x and a paint warranty which added £3600 to the cost.

Typical. They'd offer you more if you spent more...

You did the right thing. Don't be disheartened... there's plenty of cars out there.

Try a few of the we buy any car, Motorway, type places. Knock off a couple of hundred which they usually do and that should give you some idea of its value.

+1 for we buy any car. Dealer offered £600:for my daughter’s Galaxy and WBAC paid £1450. Not as much as the web page estimate but more than double the dealers offer and a very simple process, but you do need a lift home.

Dealers will offer you £4k less than the price they will ask for your car and the screen price you see on the one you're buying will be £4k more than they gave for it.

There can be some movement particularly if they've had a car on their hands for a while but for the most part it is what it is.

A lot of indy dealers are now charging pretty much the same as franchised mains so you might as well look at Selekt offerings (or whatever brand you were thinking of).
