Thumbs up CR-702 low volume problem

Hello I have a problem with the volume on my CR-702 radio in my 1989 Volvo 760, I have sourced and replaced the head unit but I can't seem to get the sound to rise anything above a whisper, I have striped and cleaned the graphic equiliser and external amplifier to no effect, I am wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what the problem is - I'm hoping it's something simple ))

Have you checked the speaker link wiring between the din plug on the back of the CR702 and the amp. Also, that there is 12v power at the amp multi-plug.

I also seem to recall that you can power up one speaker from the back of a CR702 (it was used for a single dash speaker if fitted). That might allow a test of output from the head unit.

I'm sure there is power to the Amplifier as when you unplug it the back speakers go silent, the head unit still powers the two dash mounted speakers (but at the low volume) so I am thinking the problem is in the equalizer - because the old head unit wasn't giving good volume either (when it was working)
