Default Wing Mirror Problem

When i got into my car this moring (a 2001 S40) i noticed that the drivers wing mirror was dark. There is a little bit of a reflection from it but basically useless. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Only suggestion from me would be that the silvering has parted company with the glass for whatever reason.

I should have said that the plastic film over the mirror has started to bubble up. Looks like i need to replace the glass.

There is no plastic film. It should be glass only. Is it possible some previous owner stuck a cheap (Halfrauds) replacement on over the original mirror?

looks like the glass has fallen. Just got a call from home asking why there was a piece of wing mirror shaped glass on the driveway.

Will i be okay just replacing the glass?

id drop "rufe" a message and get a £ on a gen volvo one, the "3rd party" stick on stuff isnt as good (i had one of those on the drivers side of mine when i got it, replaced with gen volvo Much better view and its got the heated bit )

"rufe" works for a Main dealer, and gives a Very nice % discount to VOC forum users
details who + how to contact > http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=57125

and there service is Fast as well (but due to xmas/weather it may be a bit longer for the bit not in there control)

I'll pop into halfords (i know, i know) on the way home to pick up one of the cheapie ones and order a proper one as well. I couldnt imagine driving around for a week or so without a wing mirror.
