Default eml on with handbrake

hi, i have a 2005 v70 2.4d with the engine management light on when the handbrake is applied? If you lock the car up it stays on for a few minutes then goes off, Unlock the car it comes straight back on without the ignition being on, yet if you drop the handbrake (ignition still off) it goes off. The light does the same when driving. Had the codes read and it just came up with a eml mal***tion??? Does anybody have any ideas?

cheers
jon.

hi, i presume nobody has heard of this before judging by the lack of replies, could it be and internal fault on the instrument cluster as they seem to have a bit of a bad reputation for failing????

Sounds like a wiring fault. Try shoogling the harness about while someone observes the EML to see if it goes out or if you have no one to do that, set a camcorder up to record it and review the footage after you have shoogled.
