Default 940 for spares - testing the water

Hi all,

I have a 940 which I was going to keep and get rid of my 740, but it's apparent now that the things wrong with the 740 are easier to fix and is a better car to drive, so the 940 is going.

It's not in spectacular condition - bit ropey in places so no one is going to go out of their way to do it up, so I'm going to nab a few parts to keep my 740 going.

Just wondering if anyone will be interested in what is left rather than calling a scrappy to come collect it.

Bit of info:

- H Reg 940 GLE 2.3 LH injection with Cat
- M47 5 speed
- ~160,000 miles
- Rust in a few places
- Clutch judder
- Brake Master seals going - pedal sinks
- New front calipers I believe
- Hesitation at higher revs, but saying that probably needs a big service and never gives any problems, just slower than 740.
- Fuel pump relay gone - previous owner wired manual switch for fuel pump.

The bits I will be nicking:

- Radiator
- Heater Matrix (maybe)
- Elec sunroof motor/switch
- Front passenger window motor

Obviously it won't be taxed (has MOT till June next year) and won't be driveable as I am taking the Radiator out, so if anyone wants it they would need to come equiped with a trailer - but I wouldn't be asking too much for it.

The other alternative is sell a few bits that are easy to take off and possibly pay the scrappies to collect.

Just gauging interest - will be sometime over the next couple of weeks though. Car located in DY6.

Weighbridge value of the volvo is 1450kg £200, alloys £4 each, cat £30
Allow the man a ton so accept £130-150 .
Thats what my neighbour pays for the cars he uplifts.
I nearly strangled him for binning a 1985 240 glt turbo saloon with the forged crank and rods Engine. Rusty but running perfect. Neary a grand down the drain there

Cheers guys, will make sure scrappy pays at least something to take it, unless someone here is interested.

It is officially off the road now, and I've started stripping off few bits I want. If anyone wants anything from a 940GLE saloon - let me know - not charging much for parts, just need it gone!

Sorry it's took a while to answer these:

Saloon mate - headlining good - hopefully putting into my 740!

No mate - both rear ones have been broken off - both fronts seem ok though, but assume they are different and no good to you though?

Default 940 Breaking for spares - anything wanted?

Right, this is definitely going now. Don't think anyone will want it as a whole because I've already taken several bits off.

Will be going over the next couple of weeks so if you want anything let me know asap. Stuff definitely available:

- Injection (electronic, not K-Jet)
- Headlights/Rear Lights/indicators/etc
- Headlamp wiper motors (someone was interested in these but have gone quiet so I'd say they are still available)
- bits of interior trim - dark blue/black
- bits of exterior trim
- dashboard bits and peices
- relays (apart from fuel pump relay)
- lots more I can't think of so just ask

Checked axle - only numbers I can see are 104476 and 3.54. Nothing along the lines of 1031/1041. Maybe there is another tag I'm missing? Although, if it is a slipper/locker I will be keeping that for the 740 - sorry.

Can't see an Engine code on the timing cover like the 740 has but I've done a decode on the VIN plate, and it is apparently a B230FB. Is that what you were hoping?

yes !! , cylinder head please .

the axle tag can be quite large , so you might have missed a bit , it can be in the corners the 1041 bit .

the autos are normally lockers , thats why finding a 3.54 ie manual one is pretty tricky , although you shouldnt really swap pinions with crownwheels and vice versa .

GLEs normally have all the bells and whistles .

Is £60 ok for the head?

Would you be collecting or need postage?

Will have another look at the axle tube.
