V70 price guide

Hi, does anyone know of a price guide/valuation tool for early Volvos. I have got a V70 (r reg) to sell and haven’t got a clue what price to advertise it at.

I am not aware of a 'guide' as such, '42stu'. Our cars are no longer in the book and are at the bottom of their depreciation curve. As such, unless a car is exceptional, values tend to be on the low side but can also vary considerably. We would need to know much more about your car to offer any suggestion as to it's likely value.

What I can tell you is that I paid £550 for a 'V' reg 2.4 petrol auto with 118K up five years ago. I do not think values have changed greatly since then.

As above more info[petrol/diesel? manual/auto? mileage? length of MoT-if any-left? specification?]might get a better idea of value.
In contrast to JW[above] I bought a V70 classic[petrol 140 manual]about 5yrs ago it had about 130,000mls on the clock 10 months test the paintwork was shot[still is] mine is also a V reg[1st Jan 2000]and because the seller was getting grief from his other half and needed rid of it I got it for £50!!!! Ok I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time,so I'd say JW's £550 is much closer to the mark.

As we've said before when discussing the matter, you did well, 'D.d'.

Mine was up at £695 at a dealer's with a few months MOT left. I told him that I would meet his asking price if he would put a year's ticket on it. He declined, but immediately offered me the car for the figure mentioned as a trade sale. I thought that it was worth a punt, took a gamble which has paid off in spades.

I think both of our stories indicate that there are real bargains to be had at present, regardless of whether we paid 50 or 550 pounds for them. They are, in my opinion, seriously under-valued cars by those not in the know, which, though being to our advantage, will be of little comfort to '42stu'. It is reminiscent of the Austin 7s and Ford Pops that frequently changed hands for 5 or 10 pounds in our youth!

My best advice to him would be to describe his car accurately and honestly, to present it in the best possible light, and then to advertise it in a forum such as this along the lines of: "I'm looking for £X", and invite offers based on that figure. The response will quickly indicate if he is on the 'mark' as you put it, or not.

The above Hagerty price guide is useful and I believe one that is used by a lot of insurance companies:~
I've used the above on two classics (1 Volvo) to support agreed valuations.

Unfortunately I can't see anything for the V70 but may be useful for other members doing the same etc.
They are valuations/recommendations and cars do differ as you know, you may have to get an independent review if you want something specific?
Trade press/advertisements will give you ideas.

There's no online tool as such... the likes of HPI and the like will pull data from CAP which will be pretty much scrap value. But to echo what's been said, lots of variables that can have a bearing on the value - I'd say £500 for a rough but usable example up to a couple of something mint, one owner, good history etc, Just need to look at the market, compare to what's for sale or been sold and pitch it where you think is fit plus at a figure you'd be happy with, give or take a bit for the inevitable haggling / low balls offers that will come in.
