Default Help! D5 non start

I have a Volvo XC90 2008 D5. Yesterday I drove the car quite a bit. I noticed a new intermittent noice that would last for about 10 seconds, it almost sounded like a air leak or wind blowing into a plastic bag and when I revved it would get louder and then stop and the car would still run perfect.

This morning I tried to turn the car on and nothing. It has a very weak slow crank although the battery is at 12.7v. Starter has also been tested and is perfectly fine. There is a loud squeal coming from aux belt pulleys but they do turn slowly when cranking the engine.

Tomorrow I am going to try turn the engine over by hand and hope it turns. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and can tell me the best way to approach this and possibly lead me to the problem. Thanks

Have you observed what the voltage drops to when attempting to crank/start?

Take the aux belts off and try to start, perhaps a pulley has seized and is stopping the car turning over. If it starts with the belt off I'd count it lucky the aux belt didn't shred and get eaten by the cambelt. If that's the case, you must fix the problem and replace the belt with a new one, otherwise you risk destroying the engine.

Default Ac compressor

I took the belt off today and the ac pulley wouldn’t move by hand but the clutch would move freely. I also noticed that the 6 ribbed belt is now a 5 ribbed belt so it shredded. Luckily it didn’t hit the timing belt or get caught under the pulleys. I am assuming it shredded because of a seized ac compressor pulley. I have ordered a refurbished compressor (with warranty) from a seller on eBay. I was just going to buy a replacement pulley kit but looks like a fiddly headache and requires tools that I do not have, so I believe that buying a refurbed compressor is best.
Will keep everyone updated if you are interested. Thanks for the help.

Glad you found the cause. Did you find the missing rib and does it start?

I found most of the rib I think the rest has just snapped and on a random road somewhere. I checked all pulleys and tensioners and there was no damage or lodged belt ribs. I started it and let it run for a couple minutes and it ran fine. When I tried to start it again it didn’t start but I believe the battery just doesn’t have enough power now because I cranked it so much when it was struggling to start to try find the problem.
