You're spot on John. Volvo themselves claim manufacturing an EV accounts for 70% more emissions than an ICE one, yet these fools but a new one every 3 years and reckon theyre somehow being kind to the planet.

Great thread Othen, now read from start to finish. Nice tidy motor, excellent news on the runnings costs. The M.O.T. and car tax exemptions and fabourable classic insurance rates really do make running an old car very viable these days.

regarding your post on running costs & insurance- have you got an agreed value within that premium?
Regards Bob.

Hi Bob,

No, I didn't ask that question. One Call isn't an historic car specialist, it is just normal car insurance.

Regular readers will have noticed all has been quiet on the RB front since my acquisition of Great Aunt Maud. The reason is simple: nothing goes wrong with the RB. Whilst my focus has been on GAM, doing the jobs that have been needed to make the motor car safe and reliable, I've been using the RB as my daily driver around town. The RB always starts straight away, everything always works and it drives more or less like a modern motor car - so there has been nothing interesting to report on (apart from: it is a really good, reliable but still interesting motor car).

I have one outstanding job to do, that is fitting the nearside plastic wheel lined from a 940 that I got from Luke, but that will wait until I change the wheels back to the summer Virgos in the spring. I've decided not to undertake the AW71 conversion - and the reason is I have concluded it would detract from what the RB has become. The BW55 box works perfectly and entirely suits the nature of the RB.

I'm really pleased with the RB project, it has absolutely achieved its aim (from more than 2 years ago). It is the perfect first historic motor, allowing me plenty of time to indulge in its great aunt.

What a fortunate chap I am: both the RB and GAM on my driveway.

Alan

I’m endeavouring to use the RB a bit more, so I’ve used it to pop into town for breakfast.
I must say, it is a joy to drive around town: PAS and an auto gearbox make it so easy, and visibility is even good (compared with GAM that is!).
As you may see from the photo, the motor car looks rather nice in the morning sunshine as well.
:-)

Great photo. That really is inspiring me to get stuck into my 122. I look forward to having that and the 240 (and possibly C70) all together on the driveway. I didn't intend to buy 3 Volvos by the way...

Very few of us set out with the intention of owning multiple Volvos - it just happens :-)

I think I remember seeing a photo of your Amazon on your very interesting and enjoyable 240 project thread - in need of some work if I recall. You are the right man for the job though, now you have your 240 more or less sorted why not make the coming year's project the Amazon? They would make a fine pair (I'm not so sure about a C70 though).

Best wishes,

Alan

I had been thinking of changing the RB's wheels and tyres back to the Virgos because we had such a mild winter - it looks like it was a good thing I didn't.

Batten down the hatches.

I don't think we'll have any snow or ice Alan, i'd swap back to summer tyres i think. Was extraordinarily warm yesterday with the winds pulling warm air up from the south west/south area, hit about 15C round here yesterday!

I don't think there is any chance of ice or snow here Dave, the coldest day forecast for the next week is 6C. I think the week of 1 March would be a good time to swap back to summer tyres.
