They're not weak and can easily handle stock boost indefinitely.
People just don't monitor boost and early overboost issues. They then fit a new intercooler, moan about the quality and still don't monitor boost. If you allow overboost, something will split. That's normal, not a weakness.

Aluminium cant crimp expand crimp forever without breaking , add heat, corrosion , condensation of oil and water to a high mileage car and it will give eventually.
And the fact its an intercooler original used in de t5 wich uses (much) lower stock boost will not help either. |

You can have original boost figures with small leaks who dont throw codes. If the leak is on the topside of the intercooler you wont see any oilstains only if the leak is under
Mine was also running fine with correct boostfigures but had a tiny leak , pressurized the intercooler and heard a leak and saw an oilleak Turbo can compensate for small leaks (at the expense of turbowear) Last edited by 5cilinder; Jan 13th, 2017 at 20:37. |

Me also
But the live data cant see small leaks due to turbo compensation. You have to pressurize to be sure |

It would be like checking your alloy rims for tiny leaks when there's no issue of any consequence.

There are consequences in unwanted turbowear ,increased backpressure, and small leaks will grow larger in time and if it pops far away from home it will be limpmode
Not to mention that the slightly higher measured airmass also overcompensate in egr flow wich means extra soot and fuelconsumption If you want to ridicule it fine Last edited by 5cilinder; Jan 13th, 2017 at 21:13. |

No ridicule, it's more that I've never heard of anyone pressure testing an intercooler when there are no boost problems.
