Tailgate strut replacement
My tailgate used to slowly drop when I parked on a hill, now its dropping all the time. Its really irritating.
It looks like the struts are the issue. Iv found a couple of after market ones on ebay for not very much money. Is it worth trying those or would you suggest to always buy oem?

If they're a PITA to replace I would go for OEM.

To make your life more difficult, I would offer the opposite advice. If you can find after market struts with the correct end fittings, and most of these struts are industry standard fittings, I go for the after market struts from a good supplier. I know it's not the same as the tailgate but I replaced the struts for the load area floor and not only were they half the price but I got the choice of what power of strut I wanted. I needed stronger than OEM as I have a heavy duty rubber mat that the OEM struts would not support when the floor was raised. The after market ones are perfect which is why I have taken the bother to reply to your query.

Brilliant idea. I have the same issue with the rubber mat. Do you have a link to the strut you used?

This was the outfit I used and I built the strut using their configuration app to select the ends and the power but I cannot find the records so I cannot tell you what power I chose. I think I chose 100N but I think 150N would provide a rising power. Sorry my memory has faded in the couple of years ago since I bought them.
